Handmade brass worktops
Halman Thompson has vast experience in delivering charming brass worktops for any situation. Whether it’s residential or commercial, decorative or designed to work, our worktops deliver the timeless character that only aged brass can deliver.
It isn’t just about looks though. Brass worktops from Halman Thompson use high quality aged metal finished in a tough gloss lacquer. That lacquer protects the metal and ensures the worktops look this good for as long as you need!
The brass is artificially aged using a chemical process that we specialise in. Once the metal reaches the desired colour and tone, the ageing process is stopped and the metal sealed in lacquer.
As we make each brass worktop by hand, there will be minor variations in pattern, colour and tone. We can minimise this as much as possible when using multiple sheets to ensure a coherent finish across a design.
There are two distinct finishes available with brass worktops:
- Somerset finish – Rich, vibrant patina with a stained glass feel
- Wiltshire finish – Lighter, more subtle brass finish that looks more traditional
Both finishes provide depth, character and a patinated appeal that will last the test of time!
INSTALLING BRASS WORKTOPS
Aged brass worktops can be supplied as sheets or as complete worktops. We can work with you to create the exact aesthetic and finish you’re looking for.
Brass sheets will need to be handled with care and carefully shaped to fit the worktop. Brass is soft and malleable and can be fixed into place using adhesive or fixings depending on the situation.
Our expert team can assist with sizing, shapes and even building the entire worktop if you need us to. Just ask when you call and we’ll handle the rest!
CARING FOR YOUR BRASS WORKTOP
Despite being a soft alloy, brass worktops are very hard wearing which is why they work great as practical surfaces as well as decorative ones.
To preserve the look and patina of aged brass, we cover the metal in a tough lacquer. Care must be taken when cleaning to preserve that lacquer as much as possible.
Clean using warm soapy water and a soft cloth. Avoid using abrasive or chemical cleaners as this can accelerate lacquer wear.
